Hint: Ionic compound is composed of ions that are held together by electrostatic force of attraction. Ions can be either positively charged or negatively charged. For example,$N{{a}^{+}},C{{l}^{-}},{{F}^{-}},M{{g}^{2+}},C{{a}^{2+}}$ .

Ions are defined as the particles that are charged because the number of protons are not equal to the number of electrons.

Complete step by step answer:
Let us discuss the properties of the ionic compounds.

1.Three properties of ionic compounds are as follows:
When we dissolve ionic compounds in water, they conduct electricity. Substances can conduct electricity if they contain charged particles and the particles are free to move from one place to another. Ionic compounds cannot generate electricity when they are in solid form because the ions are held together tightly and cannot move.

2.Ionic compounds form crystal lattice, but not amorphous solid. Ionic compounds are composed of ions which have regular repeating arrangement, known as ionic lattice. In this lattice, ions attract each other and form a regular pattern with oppositely charged ions. Hence, ionic compounds form crystals.

3.Ionic compounds have higher enthalpy of fusion and vaporization than molecular compounds. Enthalpy of fusion is defined as the amount of heat required to melt one mole of solid at constant pressure. The enthalpy of vaporization is defined as the amount of heat required to vaporize one mole of liquid at constant pressure. Ionic compounds contain enthalpy of fusion and enthalpy of vaporization hundred times higher than that of molecular compounds. The vapour pressure of ionic compounds is low because of high enthalpy value.

Note: An ion is a charged atom or molecule. It is of two types and they are anion and cation. When an atom has more electrons than protons, it is known as anion and it is negatively charged ion. If an atom has more protons than electrons, it is known as cation and it is positively charged ion. Anion and cation combine together to form ionic compounds .
