Hint Propene is the type of alkene and alkene can be defined as those compounds which have unsaturation in their compounds i.e. one or more double bonds are present in these compounds and alkenes are always ended with the suffix ene.
Complete Step by step solution:
Propene is also known by some other names called propylene and methyl ethylene and it is an unsaturated compound having chemical formula ${{C}_{3}}{{H}_{6}}$. This compound contains one double bond. Propene is the second simplest member of alkene family, the first member is ethane and these compounds are also kept in the category of hydrocarbons i.e. compounds which are generally made up of carbon and hydrogen. Propene is a colourless gas which has faint petroleum-like odour.
The structural formula of propene can be shown as follows:
$C{{H}_{3}}-CH=C{{H}_{2}}$
Propene contains a long chain of three carbon atoms and in between 1st and 2nd carbon atom, one double is present this unsaturation kept it in the category of alkenes as discussed earlier alkenes are ended with the suffix ene so three-carbon chain known by the name propane due to presence of double bond will be named as propene. Hence we can say that this is the structural form of propene.
Note: After ethylene propene is the second most important starting product in the petrochemical industry and can also be used as a raw material for a wide variety of products. Propylene has many applications in the plastic industry to manufacture containers, films, fibres etc.
