Step1. The chemical composition of water is ${H_2}O$ . Earth is known as a blue planet because $71\% $of earth is covered with water. Water exits below the land surface to and also present in the air as water vapor.
Step2. Surface water- It can be described as the water present on the surface of earth. It includes rivers, lakes, reservoirs, oceans and streams. Almost $80\% $ water used in daily life is surface water. Even this water is present in two forms. One is saline water and the other is fresh water.
Step3. Saline water- The ocean and saline lakes are biggest source of this water. Almost 97% of the earth water is in the oceans. But, he salinity of ocean water is very high, so it is not fir as drinking water. There have been experiments to make it drinkable but it proves very costly.
Step4. Fresh water- Rivers, canals, lakes, reservoirs and streams are general sources of fresh surface water. They are used for both drinking and irrigation but they are present in very small quantities. Still, they complete many fresh water needs of the human. Out of $3\% $ almost $2.15\% $ of fresh water is present in the form of glaciers and other ice. They are melting rapidly due to global warming.
Step4. Ground water- $0.61\% $of total earth water is present as ground water. It is the most common way of fulfilling the human daily needs. We drink this water and use it for our irrigation in general. It is present in the condition of $100\% $ saturation. It is almost 80 times more than the surface water resources.
Step5. The water cycle- Often termed as a hydrological cycle is the representation of water recycling by environment. The water evaporates from the sea. It forms the vapor and later on clouds. The clouds rain on earth and that water is stored, flowing via rivers back to the sea.

The reason is excessive pumping of water for industrial work, irrigation and supply to the huge demand. Even today in many areas of India people have to wait for tankers to get some drinking water.
