Marble is obtained through a process of metamorphism in which the original rocks transformed into new rocks. Marble is composed of alkaline earth minerals and carbonate, which is commonly known as calcite or dolomite.
The texture of marble appears to be non-foliated i.e. it does not exist in layers. The marble is used for making sculptures and monuments. The material is termed as metamorphosed limestone.
The chemical name of marble is calcium carbonate. The chemical formula of marble is $$CaC{O}_3$$. It is an inorganic chemical compound consisting of $$C{a}^{2+}$$ ions and $$C{O_3}^{2-}$$ ions. It is found as a white mineral in chalks, limestones and marbles.
