When a number is represented in a general form, the position of each of the digits in the number will be expanded. These positions start from a unit place also known as one's place. After the unit place, there comes tens, hundreds, thousands and so on.
For example: we have the number $2456$
So, the place value of $6$ is $6 \times 1 = 6$ (unit place)
The place value of $5$ is $5 \times 10 = 50$ (tens place)
The place value of $4$ is $4 \times 100 = 400$ (hundred’s place)
The place value of $2$ is $2 \times 1000 = 2000$
On adding these values we will get the number. i.e.,
$ \Rightarrow 2000 + 400 + 50 + 6 = 2456$
Likewise, we write $11$ ones, $7$tens and $1$ hundreds
$11$ ones $ = 1 \times 10 + 1 \times 1$$ = 10 + 1$
$7$ tens $7 \times 10 = 70$
$1$ hundreds $ = 1 \times 100 = 100$
On adding these values we will get the required number. i.e.,
$ \Rightarrow 10 + 1 + 70 + 100 = 181$
