Hint :Solid- A solid is a sample of matter that retains its density and shape also when it is not confined. Adjective solids describe the condition, or state of matter having property. The atoms or molecules of matter in solid state are generally compressed tightly as the repulsive forces among them will be allowed.
Liquid- liquid is a state of matter that conforms to the shape of a container in which it is held ,The particles in liquid are free to flow, liquid has a definite volume , it does not have definite shape.
Gases- gas is a sample of matter that conforms to the shape of a container in which it acquires uniform density inside the container, in the presence of gravity.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
This property of material is determined by different sets of experiments and their study.
As we know following properties of solid is:
It is rigid and hard.
It has the strongest intermolecular force of attraction.
It has a fixed volume and shape at given that temperature.
Molecules have a small vibration at their mean position.
Molecules in solids are so tightly packed having negligible or very less intermolecular space.
As we know following properties of liquid is:
It is less tightly packed.
It does not have any particular shape.
A quantity of a particular liquid has a definite volume at a given temperature.
The intermolecular force of attraction is less than of solids.
Molecules can move from one place to another place.
As we know following properties of gases is:
It is the worst conductor of heat.
It has intermolecular space at most.
It does not have definite shape or volume.
Molecules move independently.
Force of attraction is least between the molecules.
Note :
Solid, liquid and gas are formed by a basic unit known as an atom. Hence the only the manner they are grouped together that will determine the physical property of that compound that will solid liquid and gas. Due to this physical property of material all other physical properties will be determined as solid pass heat by conduction process, liquid pass heat through convection process.
