Hint: A sugar is a sweet substance that we get from certain plants. A sugar is a sweet material obtained from sugarcane and sweet beets. The sugar is colorless or white. It is mostly used to sweeten food and beverages.

- In 1903, the first Indian sugar industry or mill was started in Bihar. Due to the increase in consumption of sugar, the number of industries went up to 140 in 1945. The total production of sugar is increasing day by day with the span of time. India became the exporter of sugar. India is now the third largest producer of sugar after Cuba and Brazil. It covers an area of 3 million hectares.
- Most of the sugar mills or industries are located within the upper and middle Ganga Plain. Maximum number of sugar industries are situated in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Kerala, Rajasthan and Orissa, etc.

Problems of sugar industry are:
- Lack of substantial amounts of cane.
- Cost of the production is highest among all the leading sugar producers.
- Due to the seasonal nature of Job, workers lack professional skills.
