complete answer:
-In this method, a rope and a bucket are connected to a support. Water is then collected from the well.
-Later this water is poured into the plants or into the field.
-This method has a lot of disadvantages. There is wastage of water, which requires human labor. Sometimes it can lead to waterlogging also. Water may not be supplied in adequate quantities.
-This method is still practiced in regions where there is enough water supply but nowadays other efficient methods are employed.
Additional information:
-There are other traditional methods of irrigation.
-These methods include moat or pulley system, Rahat, chain pump.
-In Rahat, water is drawn out by animals. Animals rotate the wheel thus drawing water up the well.
-In a chain pump, there are many discs attached and arranged on an endless chain. One part dips into the well and the other chain runs through the tube.
Note:
Many modern irrigation methods are employed which are highly efficient and ensure zero water wastage. Two such methods are drip irrigation and a sprinkler system. Sprinkling, sub-irrigation, intrasoil, and mist irrigation are some other methods. Here water reaches directly to the roots. Weeds do not grow as they don’t have sufficient water to survive.
