It’s small, fragrant white flowers are arranged in dense clusters at the highest of the branches. These flowers contain both kinds of reproductive organs. Teak wood features a leather-like smell when it's freshly milled and is particularly valued for its durability and water resistance.
It is a light-demanding species with relatively high candlepower, i.e. between 75 and 100% of sunlight for better growth and development. It occurs from water level to an altitude of about 1200 m with an 800-2500 mm rainfall regime and also grows in very moist areas with an annual rainfall of over 3,500 mm.
Teak also grows in dry areas of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Within the Indian Peninsula, teak experiences maximum temperatures up to 48oC and minimum about 2oC within the dry zone of Central India while within the moist parts of Southern India, the utmost and minimum temperatures of teak distribution range from 43oC and 13oC respectively.

Note:Myanmar's teak forests account for nearly half the world's present teak. Molecular studies show that there are two centers of the genetic origin of teak: one in India and thus the opposite in Myanmar and Laos.
