At a traffic signal
Beep beep! sound the horns of different vehicles at the pedestrian crossing where young and old alike wait to cross from one corner of the street to the other.
The traffic signal itself is at the top of a tall metallic pole, shaped into a broad rectangle. Three vibrant colors adorn its black background- red, yellow, and green. Each of these colors signifies a different message.
Red, reminds one to stop.
Yellow says, “Patience. Just wait for a little time longer.”
Green gives the signal to move again.
Below on the road, people cross on the zebra crossing as the lights turn green. A street sign at the corner indicates the crossing with its clear signage while down on the road, black and white painted stripes resemble the back of a zebra. The people who cross the street are a motley mix of all ages- school children as well as young men and a lone woman. They cross safely across the street and the vehicles zoom past, beginning the ceaseless cycle all over again.
