Pine, (genus Pinus) is a genus of around 120 species of evergreen conifers of the pine family (Pinaceae), distributed throughout the world, but mostly native to northern temperate regions.
Several species grow edible pine seeds that are sold commercially as pine nuts.
Many pines, including black, white, Himalayan, and stone pines, are cultivated as ornamentals and some are planted in reforestation projects or for windbreaks.
The distillation result of the leaves is pine-leaf oil, used medicinally; distillation by-products are charcoal, lampblack, and fuel gases.Pines are softwoods, but they can be designated as soft pines or hard pines commercially.
