Hint: Count Camillo de Cavour was an Italian statesman and played an important role in Italian unification.
Complete answer: Count Camillo de Cavour (10th August 1810-6 June 1861) was an Italian statesman and a leading figure in the movement towards Italian unification. He was one of the leaders of Historical Right and was the Prime Minister of Sardinia-Piedmont,a position he maintained throughout the Second Italian War of Independence.
He was neither a revolutionary nor a democrat. He made a careful diplomatic alliance with France, which helped Sardinia-Piedmont defeat the Austrian forces in 1859, and thereby free the northern part of Italy from the Austrian Habsburgs. Cavour also waged war against the petty tyrants of central Italy. He also remained in communication with Garibaldi. In May 1860 under the rule of King Victor Emmanuel whom Cavour had convinced for support, Garibaldi and his force of Red Shirts sailed to Sicily and demolished the tormenting structure of the Bourbon government. When Garibaldi crossed the mainland and took Naples, Cavour was afraid that the Red Shirts might complicate the matter by attacking the Papal sites. To avoid this situation, he sent troops to annex the Church holdings. Cavour lived to see Victor Emmanuel proclaimed king of a united Italy In 1861, but he died on June 6, 1861. There were many unsolved problems that still existed in Italy, but Cavour’s brilliance had transformed Italy from a feudal state to a modern state. He played a very important role in the unification of Italy.
Note: He was a conservative whose exploitative nature against international forces and brave decisions brought a revolution and brought Italian unification.
