Siddhartha was born in a Kshatriya family, his birth place is Lumbini and the year of his birth as per the historic events is 563 BCE and according to the Buddhist tradition his birth year is considered as 624 BCE.
He was the son of King Suddhodana and Queen Maya Devi who died seven days after his birth, on his birth a prophecy was announced that if he stayed at home he would become a great ruler and if he leaves the house he will become a universal spiritual leader.

So, to make him a great ruler he was isolated from the outside world by the king and was not allowed to go out in places that may show him the dreadful reality of life.He got married to Princess Yasodhara of the Koliya clan and had a son by the name of Rahula. Buddha left the palace, his wife and son after the child was seven days old (at the age of 29).

Yasodhara was the daughter of King Suppabuddha, and Amita, sister of the Buddha's father, King Suddhodana. She was born on the same day in the month of "Vaishaka" as prince Siddhartha.
