Hint: The process of development and maturation of white blood cells is called leukopoiesis. Leukopoiesis is known as white blood cells. They are capable of amoeboid movement. Its chief functions are to protect the body against microorganisms causing disease.

Complete Answer:
Leucocytes are the units of the body’s resistance to infections, disease. It is classified into two main groups, they are granular and agranular.
Granular:
1. Basophils
2. Neutrophils
3. Eosinophils
Agranular:
1. Lymphocytes
2. monocytes

- Basophils, it makes up 0.5 - 1% of all white blood cells. They are 8 - 10 micrometer in diameter. The nucleus contains 2 lobes. When stained, large cytoplasmic granules appear deep blue- purple color. Functions of basophils are the functions in which liberate heparin, histamine, serotonin in allergic reactions that intensify the overall inflammatory response. Lifespan- 10 hours.

- Monocytes are 12 - 20 micrometer in diameter. It makes up 3 - 8% of all white blood cells. The nucleus is kidney shaped or horseshoe shaped. Function of monocytes are functions in which phagocytosis occurs after they transform into fixed or wandering macrophages. Life span- less than 24 hours.

- Neutrophils are normally 10 - 12 micrometers in diameter, they make up 60% - 70% of all white blood cells. Function of neutrophils is that of a phagocyte. Life span- 12 hours.

- Acidophil has 14 hours life span

Thus, the option (B) is correct.

Note: Lymphocytes have 5 - 7 days life span. Lymphocytes are divided into T cells, B cells, natural killer cells. White blood cells provide the immune system. white blood cells are formed from bone marrow but circulate throughout the bloodstream. The normal white blood cells count is 4,000 - 11,000 per microliter of blood.
