The severity of the visual disturbance is determined by the degree of lens cloudiness.
Treatment of cataract:
The only way to treat a cataract is through surgery. In a cataract surgery the cloudy lens is surgically removed and replaced by a clear lens.

As a cataract progresses, there is a loss in vision clarity that is not correctable with glasses. There is a loss of contrast sensitivity and a double vision is often observed.
