Hint: Plasma forms an important part of the blood and is a light-yellow colored liquid. It carries water, salts, enzymes as well as hormones. The plasma carries these materials to the different parts of the body cells and helps to remove waste products from the cells.

Complete answer:
Plasma is the yellowish colored liquid component of the blood. It is the liquid portion of the blood that contains the suspended blood cells. It is the portion of blood that carries the waste materials from the cells and carries cell proteins, hormones and other essential materials to different parts of the body.
Plasma makes up about 55% of the total blood volumes of the body. The plasma is made up of mostly water and contains various types of dissolved proteins. The dissolved protein in the plasma includes categories of proteins such as serum albumins, globulins and fibrinogens. In addition to this, plasma also contains glucose, clotting factors, hormones and different types of ions and electrolytes.
Globulins are a group of globular proteins that are produced in the liver through the activation of the immune system. It plays an important role in the process of liver function, blood clotting and infection fighting functions.
Fibrinogen is produced in the liver and they are complex of glycoproteins. They play an important role during clot formation as they are found to be circulating with the blood.
The plasma does not contain platelets. It is found only in the mammals whereas in the other vertebrates such as amphibian and birds, it circulates as mononuclear Platelets are also known as thrombocytes and act along with the clotting factors to react to bleeding from the blood vessels to form blood clot by clumping of the blood. They do not bear nucleus and are fragments of cytoplasm derived from the megakaryocytes of the bone marrow. It then enters into the circulation and becomes activated platelets.

Hence, the correct answer is option (D).

Note: Plasma is found associated with the blood and is present as a liquid of yellow color. It contains mostly water, proteins such as globulins, albumins and fibrinogens as well as several other components such as ions, hormones, glucose etc. Platelets are not found as the component of plasma.
