It was named after the architect Sir Cyril Radcliffe who was the pillar of the Indo-Bangladesh partition.
The transportation from India to Bangladesh holds cultural, political as well as historical importance. The Kolkata Dhaka bus route began in 1999. In 2001 a bus service was started to connect Dhaka with Agartala. There are two passenger trains that run from Kolkata to Bangladesh known as Maitreyee and Bandhan express.
