Hint: We have to know that the states of matter are mainly divided into three types and that is, solid, liquid and gas. And each matter has different chemical and physical properties. Water is the only one substance which can exist as solid state, liquid state and vapour state in the earth. In solids, all the particles are arranged very closely. And in the case of liquids, the distance between particles is greater than solid and its shape depends upon the container.
Complete answer:
As we know that the liquid is the matter which has a fixed volume but no fixed shape. Because, in the liquids, all the particles are attached together and they are closely connected. But, all the particles can move very freely. Then, the volume of a liquid always remains constant. It will not increase or decrease. But the shape will be changing according to their container. Because, the shape of a liquid always depends upon the container. The particles of liquid are arrays disorderly and it is less closely packed. And the intermolecular force of attraction between the solid is less than the solid. Therefore, the liquid has a fixed volume and no fixed shape.
Note:
The particles present in the solid are very far apart. Hence it cannot move and it has a definite shape and volume. But the particles present in the liquid and gases are spread more easily than solids. And it can move very fast and freely. Because, the distance between the particles present in the gas and liquid is high. The intermolecular attraction present in the gases is greater than the liquid. Hence, all the gases can move very faster than the liquids.
