Hint: Tehsildar is considered as a Class 1 gazetted officer in most states of India. Such officers are also given judicial power.
Complete step by step answer: The main function that tehsildars perform is to implement the various policies of the taluka. They are subject to the District Collector. Tehsildars preside over matters concerning land, tax, and revenue. At first tehsildar was appointed as Naib Tehsildars. It was only after successful completion of a State Service Exam that he/she was promoted from a subordinate post like Kanoongo. The Kanoongo is also known as Revenue Inspectors. Each state is divided into several districts. The District Collector/District Magistrate, who is an officer from the IAS cadre, is considered the district's senior civil servant. However the dividend doesn't stop here because these districts are subdivided into Revenue Subdivisions. Each such subdivision comes under the charge of an officer designated as a Subdivisional Magistrate (S.D.M.) or Deputy Collector. The S.D.M is a member of the State Civil Service cadre.
Note: The tehsildar reports directly to the District Revenue Officer(DRO). The DRO is also known as the Additional District Collector.
