Hint: The human eye is a specialised structure present in pair for vision. The pupil is present in the centre of the eye. It occurs as black spot. The size of the pupil is regulated by the muscles in the iris.
Complete answer:
Human eye is the sensitive structure which is responsible for vision. It contains several parts like cornea, iris, pupil, lens, aqueous humor, vitreous humor, and is vell supplied with blood vessels and nerves. The eye helps in receiving and processing visual signals. It detects light and converts it into electrochemical impulses in the neurons.
The pupil is one of the important parts of the eye which is present as black hole in the centre of the iris. It appears as black because the light rays are absorbed by the tissues in the eye. The shape of the pupil is round in case of humans.
Function of Pupil:
1)The pupil acts as the eye aperture.
2)The light enters the eye through the pupil. The pupil is surrounded by the iris which contains several smooth muscles.
3)The size of the pupil changes as per the amount of light. This is regulated by the iris.
4)The pupil becomes larger in dark and smaller in light.
Note: The size of the pupil is not the same throughout life. It is maximum at the age of 15 and relatively decreases after the age of 25. The pupil contracts in the bright light so as to control the amount of light entering the eye. In the dark the pupil expands so as to provide the sufficient amount of light.
