Hint: The charge of an atom is the number of electrons it loses or gains. Charge can be positive or negative. The nature of charge whether positive or negative depends on whether it loses the electrons or it gains the electrons. The number of electrons it loses or gains defines its charge.

Complete answer:
Hydrogen is the first element of the periodic table .It has atomic number 1. A charge is developed on an atom when it loses or gains any electrons. The charge which is developed on an atom depends on the number of electrons it will lose or gain. Whenever the atom loses the electron it will acquire a positive charge. Similarly whenever the atom gains the electron it will acquire a negative charge. The number of electrons the atom loses or gains accordingly that amount of charge is developed on the atom. Since Hhas only one electron and one proton . At ground state it is electrically neutral. Since it has only one electron, it can lose one electron and thus acquire a positive charge. As it loses only one electron so it has acquired a +1 charge which can be written as H+. Now it has only one proton means no electron is available in this ion.

Note:
It can gain one electron too and can become H ion which is also called hydride ion. But practically it is harder to gain electrons than to lose for H. H+ ion is also called hydronium ion .Sometimes it is also called proton, that's why in protonation we use H+ ion.
