Generally, there are two kinds of colour blindness and that are Monochromacy and Dichromacy. In the case of monochromacy two or three-cone pigments i.e. red, blue, and green are absent or damaged. This may lead to total colour blindness. In the case of dichromacy, any one of the cone pigments is absent or damaged. This causes partial colour blindness.
There are different causes of colour blindness. An inherited problem in the development of one or more of the three sets of cone cells is the most common cause of colour blindness. In a human eye retina, there are two light-sensitive cells; rod cells and cone cells.
The rod cells are used to see low light and the cone cells are used for normal and bright light. These cells are responsible for colour vision. When these two light-sensitive cells fail to perform their functions then it causes colour blindness.
There are also some other factors, which are responsible for a colour vision problem in a person such as damage in the nerve cells of the brain or eye, genetic disorders, side effects of drugs, high consumption of tobacco and alcohol.
