Van Mahotsav is also called a Forest festival. The festival is celebrated for approximately one week. It explains and promotes the idea of planting trees and their importance. It also informs people about the deforestation process that is continuously increasing day by day. Due to the heavy and large set up of industries around us, the clearing of forest is done for different uses such as equipment. This deforestation affects the whole cycle of the environment and also causes breathing problems and pollution in the air. The biotic and abiotic components also get disturbed due to this. The festival marks the hope of creating more forests and planting more trees around us. It also gives the idea of increasing the production of a food resource, providing shelter and shades for cattle, reduction in drought and other natural calamities. It is also considered that the 1st week of July is the correct time for planting trees.

Additional Information -The father of Van Mahotsav or Forest festival is K.M Munshi. His full name is Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi. He was born on 30th December 1887 in Bharuch. Some of the important organizations founded by him include Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, IT Club Elamakkara, and Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya.
