Hint: To answer this question we will first know what rolling is. Then we will mention different types of rolling and then define pure rolling and know what it means. We will answer this question stating an example to give a better idea.
Complete step-by-step solution:
Have you ever stood on a steep road and skated down the road? This motion of the wheels of your skates is called rolling. It is a type of motion where the object( mostly symmetric, usually circular) moves as a result of many motions like rotational motion and translatory motion. The rotational motion is due to which the wheel rotates and translational motion is due to which it moves in the forward direction.
There are different types of rolling: rotational motion, translational motion and pure rolling.
Pure rolling definition: moving or rotational motion of a body without slipping or skidding is called pure rolling motion. Hence the body moves such that at every point of contact the body remains at rest. Do not think that there is no friction in pure rolling. There is friction at every point as there is no external force to stop this motion.
Note: You might get confused between pure rolling and rolling, they are different from one another. In pure rolling slipping doesn’t take place whereas in rolling slipping takes place. A pure rolling body acts like it is at rest at the point where it touches the ground whereas rolling at every point of contact sliding takes place.
Do not assume that the friction is 0 in pure rolling, that is not true. This is because there is no external force to stop this motion.
