Measurement is known as the determination of the size or magnitude of something. Comparing the unknown quantity with some standard quantity having an equal nature is called the Measurement. Measurement can also be called the Comparison of an unknown quantity with some known quantity of the same kind.
Measurement of an object consists of the following :-
1.) The unit of measurement.
2.) The number of units that the objective measures.
Therefore, there is a need for the Standard unit system because :-
a.) The unit must be well defined.
b.) It must be highly precise.
c.) It must be easily reproducible.
d.) The unit should remain unaltered irrespective of place, time, and physical conditions.
e.) At the last, it should be easily comparable with the other similar units.
So, the current system of units has three standard units :- the meter, the kilogram, and the second.
These three units form the MKS system or the Metric system.
A meter ('m') is the unit of length. Currently, its current definition is based on the distance that light travels in \[\dfrac{1}{299,792,458}\] of a second.
A kilogram ('kg') is a unit of mass. Which was previously defined as a specific volume of water (that is, 1 litre or a \[10~cm{}^\text{3}\]). Its current definition is based on a prototype of the platinum-iridium cylinder.
A second ('s') is a unit of time. Originally, its definition is based on the amount of time the earth needs to make\[\dfrac{1}{86,400}\] of a rotation. But now, it is based on the time taken to complete \[9,19,26,31,770\] oscillations of a Cesium\[-133\]atom.
