Complete Step by Step answer: Lok Adalat is a system of ADR i.e. Alternate Dispute Resolution in which the disputes/cases pending in the court are settled in a friendly manner.
These are given the statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, this implies the decision of the Lok Adalat will be final and no appeal against the decision will be entertained and if the parties feel the result is not satisfactory, then they can again go to the court and file their cases in a provisional manner. Lok Adalat is based on Gandhian Principles and is also called “People’s Court”. There is no court fee whatsoever. In case there is the court fee is already paid by an individual, the amount will be refunded once the dispute is settled at Lok Adalat. It consists of one chairman, who is or has been a district judge and two other people of suitable experience in public services.
