Likewise, there are a lot of vernacular names for the same type of plant species, for instance a bargad tree, vat vriksh or the banyan tree are all the different names of the same plant. This creates a problem for the scientific community in research and its use in different parts of the globe so a standard scientific nomenclature was established to resolve this issue.

Botanical names are given by ICBN which is the international code for botanical nomenclature.
ICBN provides a set of rules and recommendations based on which plants are given their scientific botanical name.
For example – The banyan tree as per the ICBN rules is scientifically recognized as Ficus benghalensis.

In general, botanical nomenclature uses a binomial system of nomenclature was proposed by Linneaus and puts various plants into the same or different groups called taxa based on their similarities in characters. A typical botanical name is considered to be a Latin name even if it has a different origin.

Note:
The fifth International Botanical Congress (IBC) was convened in England in \[1930\] with the goal of establishing standards and regulations for plant naming. The twelfth summit was held in Leningrad, USSR, in July \[1975\]. The modern International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN) system was adapted in \[1978\] based on the resolutions of these meetings. Every \[5 - 6\] years, the IBC meets to decide on any additions or changes to the Code.
