What is eubacteria?
Hint: Try to break the words you will get two words. Among these, eu means true and bacteria are minute, unicellular, prokaryotic microbes. They come under the kingdom Monera of the five kingdom classification.(five kingdom classification was proposed by Whittaker).
Complete answer:
These are known as true bacteria and as suggested in the hint, they are unicellular minute and prokaryotic microbes. They were first observed by Leeuwenhoek from a sample of stored rainwater. He termed these microbes as animalcules. They were later termed as bacteria by Ehrenberg. Their structure is composed of simple cells with rigid cell walls and they often have flagella for movement. Most of the bacteria comes under this eubacteria category of Monera classification. These bacteria are of two types gram positive and Gram negative. These names are given on the basis of the gram staining technique introduced by the scientist Gram. On the basis of staining, the bacteria which retain the color of the stain are called gram positive and those which remain decolorized are known as gram negative. The eubacteria are of different shapes like micrococcus, diplococcus, tetracoccus, bacillus, diplobacillus, spirillum, vibrio, stalked and many more.
Note: Bacteria are harmful as well as useful. They perform many useful activities like decaying of organic matter, improving soil fertility, preparation of alcohol, production of acetic acid and many more. They are harmful as they cause food poisoning, water pollution and several kinds of diseases. In humans, these bacteria cause diseases like influenza, tetanus, pneumonia, plague, syphilis, strep throat and many more.
