Hint Colonialism is highly similar to that of Imperialism. Imperialism means to increase the dimensions or the boundaries of a country or a region by forcefully entering into another area or country. India was also the colony of Britishers for about 200 years.

Complete Answer Colonialism is a way of occupying another country or a weak region by a powerful country by using the military force and all other possible methods to increase its ruling area. Colonialism is an ancient practice which is used by the Emperors continuously since 1500 B.C. They used to attack the area or the region of Emperors with a lower number of troops and military forces than them. The period of Modern Colonialism started from the 15th century with the entry of Portuguese ruler who attacked a town in North Africa and ascended the throne. In the year 1492, Christopher Columbus overruled the Spanish Throne. This became more and more famous and by then every ruling power thought of overruling another country. As we know that India also became the colony of Britishers in the year 1858 and from then Britishers ruled the country till 1947. India was under the rule of East India Company before the Britishers. The company came to India for the trading purpose and soon handed over the country’s decision and then its throne under it. When a country becomes the colony of a more powerful country then all the powers of that country are taken by the ruling country which includes all the tax system, financial budget, production everything.

Note
East India Company made India its colony to gain more financial profits in his business. During British Colonization, India was impacted both positively and Negatively. Lot of Indians lost their lives in making India independent from British.
