Hint: As the name suggests that this fever causes black water, which means darker coloration of fluids of the body. The fever is most common in malaria and dengue causing severe fever and multiple fevers.
Complete step by step answer: Blackwater fever is a type of rare and complicated malaria infection. In this disease, the blood and the urine turn dark red or black, giving it the name, blackwater fever. This disease is also known as malarial haemoglobinuria.
-This disease is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium falciparum. The parasite causes a deadly
infection. Due to the infection, the red blood cells present in the bloodstream of the infected person
start to burst in the blood. We all know that these red blood cells contain the protein which provides
pigmentation to the blood, hemoglobin.
-The rupturing of these cells leads to the aggregation of this protein in the blood vessels. They could also enter the urine and cause renal failure as well.
-In some cases, known by us, blackwater may be caused in response to the immune system against
medications, an organ, or blood transfusion from donors which are incompatible to the person who was
offered. This could be caused due to toxemia while pregnancy and burns as well. Mosquito bites could
be one of the reasons as well.
-The symptoms of this disease are vomiting, high fever, blood in urine, increased heart rate, jaundice,
and severe chills. The person will experience fatigue and too much weakness. The person will also be at
risk of becoming anemic.
-The severity of this disease is extreme, therefore making it extremely fatal with a high mortality rate and making it rare as well. If not treated well, the disease has a high probability to reoccur with increased risks. Therefore, blackwater fever is a dangerous development of malaria.
Note: Black fever or kala-azar are two different diseases. The names are very similar which can be seen clearly. We all know that Kala-azar is another deadly disease caused by the parasite Leishmania. The parasite enters the body because of sandfly bites. The symptoms of kala-azar are fever, swelling, weight loss, etc. If not treated, the disease could be fatal. It is important that one should get properly diagnosed and treated and only take prescribed medication as anything else will only tend to be more malice.
