Hint: Plant kingdom has five different classes. The phanerogams have two types- Angiosperms and Gymnosperms. Angiosperms are classified as herbs, shrubs and trees whereas gymnosperms are either shrubs or trees.

Complete answer:
Based on the stem and growth habits, plants are classified as herbs, shrubs and trees.
1. Herbs are short plants with soft non-woody stems. Their stems are weak and thus plants can be uprooted easily. They usually complete their life cycle in one or two seasons. They can have no branches or fewer branches. They have nutritional benefits. Herbs like parsley are used in cooking to provide flavor.
2. Shrubs are the next category of plants that are taller than herbs but shorter than trees. They are bushy with woody stems but are flexible. Shrubs show the presence of branches. The life-span of shrubs varies with type of species. Example- Rose, Tulsi, etc.
3. Trees are the tall plants. They are thick and woody. They have a long life-span. Trees show a main stem called trunk with many branches ahead. Trees show the presence of leaves, branches, fruits and flowers. Trees have stronger roots and thus it is difficult to uproot them. Some trees can be branchless examples- coconut trees. Trees have a huge ecological importance. They prevent soil erosion and global warming. Group of trees from forests which are home to many animals. Different parts of trees have medicinal and commercial importance. Unfortunately these days, urbanization has led to deforestation which has serious environmental consequences.

Note: Herbs are different from spices. Species are dried plant parts mainly adding flavor to the food whereas herbs are green flowering plants that are known for their raw aroma and flavor.
