Flower consists of four distinct whorls of its parts. An outer calyx consists of sepals, within Calyx lies Corolla that consists of petals. The androecium, also known as a group of stamens and in the centre gynoecium is present which contains the pistils. Thus Calyx, Corolla, Androecium and Gynoecium together constitute a flower.
Perianth, also known as floral envelope is composed of sepals and petals together. The colour of sepals and petals are opposite to each other. The former is generally green in colour and resembles reduced leaves and the latter is generally colourful. Tepals can be described as the term used to define sepals and petals in plants like lilies and tulips where they both are indistinguishable.The androecium, also defined as the male parts of the flower contains stamens which are composed of filament and anther. Anther is the part where production of pollen takes part.
The gynoecium, also known as the female parts of the flower, consists of one or more pistils. Pistil is further divisible into stigma,style and ovary. Stigma can be described as the place where pollen grains rest as it comprises a pollen-receptive surface. Style can is an upright extension through which pollen grains travel from stigma to ovary. Ovary can be described as the structure in which the presence of ovules, also known as potential seeds, is observed. After fertilisation the ovary gets converted into fruit whereas on the other hand ovules get converted into seeds.
