Basically the water cycle is a never ending process in which the water from the oceans evaporates and then condenses in the clouds, then the condensed water falls on land in the form of rain.
The water in the ocean is salty water and we humans cannot drink it, the water that comes in the form of rain is not salty as it evaporates first. Thus the water that we get from rain is more important than we think it is, rain water does not only provide us water that we can drink, but it also does the job to store that water in the ground.
Earth has around 97 percent of water on the surface which is just oceans and seas, thus we cannot drink it. Around only 3 percent of water is drinkable and on top of that, most of that water is underground or is turned into glaciers and ice sheets.
Therefore, we only have around 1 percent of water that we can drink and that water comes from rivers, lakes or other wetland areas. Rain and snowfall helps these rivers and lakes to be filled throughout the year.
