Hint:
The organisms and their surroundings are always dynamic in nature that means there are changes going on continuously in any environment and the organisms should also change in their survival strategies so that they can survive.

Complete answer:
There are several evolutionary processes that go on on a continuous basis. The organisms are subjected to these changes so that they can bring about changes within themselves to live and survive.

Variation is an important force of nature and it is the rate of differences or changes present within the individuals of a population. Generally, it is the measure of differences that are taken place in the genetic composition of any individual. It is referred to the deviation of differences that are brought about between the individuals of a population. The process of variation can be brought about as a result of any type of mutations in the genes.

Variations are important for populations as they arise as evolutionary forces and allow through the process of natural selection to increase or decrease frequency of alleles that are already present in the population. Mutation can create entirely new alleles in the population giving rise to variation. It can also arise by random mating and fertilization. It allows some individuals within the population to change in response to the changing environment.

Due to this new alleles are produced which increases the ability of the organism in terms of survival and reproduction. The growth of individuals with new alleles causes the allele to grow in the population. The useful alleles are then selected as allowed to grow as a result the population can survive the changing conditions. Other new alleles and organisms that carry new mutations and if they are not useful in the environmental conditions die out.

Variations are then passed from one generation to another. The variations occurring in the population is advantageous as it enables some individuals of the population to adapt and survive in the changing environment while it also helps in maintaining the survival of the population.

Note: The process of variation can be explained as any type of changes accumulated within the individuals of the population in response to different changes in the environmental conditions or mutations and the changes accumulated help the survival of the organisms in turn promotes growth of the population
