Members of the Legislature Council are chosen in the following manner: One-third is elected from local bodies like municipalities, Gram panchayats, Panchayat Samiti, and district councils. One third are elected from the members of the Legislative Assembly of the State from among the persons who are not members of the State Legislative Assembly. One-sixth are nominated by the Governor from persons having good knowledge or practical experience in fields of literature, science, arts, the co-operative movement, and social services. One twelfth is elected by teachers who have spent a minimum of three years teaching in educational organizations within the state not lower than secondary schools, including colleges and universities.
