Hint:Under this article President’s rule can be imposed on any state of India on the basis of the failure of the constitutional machinery.

Complete answer:
Article 356 of the Constitution of India is based on section 93 of the Government of India Act ,1935. Article 356 is about the provisions of failure of constitutional machinery in states. Therefore this article plays an interventionist role in the autonomy of the government.
It is also called ‘State Emergency’ or ‘Constitutional Emergency’
This is of two types:-
1. If the president obtains a report from the state’s governor or otherwise is convinced or assured that the state’s situation is such that the state government cannot carry on the governance according to the provision of the constitution.
2. If any state of India fails to obey with all directions given by the Union on matters it is entitled to.
President’s rule can be repealed anytime after a subsequent order passed by the President. An order of revocation does not need assent by the parliament.

Hence, the correct answer is option D.

Note:In simple words, President rule is when the state government is expelled and the central government directly manages the state through the office of the governor. For the first instance the president’s rule is for a period of 6 months. Later, it can be increased for a period of three years with parliamentary approval, every six months.
