Muscle tissues are soft tissues comprising muscles which help in movement with contraction and relaxation. Muscle tissue is also called myopropulsive tissue. Muscle tissues are made up of elongated cells called muscle fibers.
There are three types of muscle tissues in mammals, namely:
Skeletal Muscles (Striated)
Smooth Muscles (Non-striated)
Cardiac Muscles (Semi-striated)
Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles and have a striated structure. They are connected to the bone by tendons and are used to maintain posture and locomotion. Opposite to smooth muscles, it has striations.
Cardiac muscles are involuntary muscles found in the heart. They are similar to skeletal muscles as they have striations. The primary function of cardiac muscles is to contract to pump blood all over the body.
Smooth muscles are involuntary muscles which lack any striations. Smooth muscle cells are called myocytes. They have a fusiform shape and can contract and relax like skeletal and cardiac muscles. They have a greater amount of elasticity when compared to striated muscles. The elastic factor of smooth muscles helps it maintain a state of tension for long periods of time in organs like the intestine or urinary bladder.
Smooth muscles are found in places like the walls of blood vessels as their ability to maintain tension helps the wall remain elastic.

Note:
Smooth muscles are uninucleate muscles. They do not show any dark or light bands.
Smooth muscles are elongated and are spindle shaped. They are also found in the walls of all hollow organs except the heart, the respiratory, urinary and reproductive tracts. The ciliary muscle of the eye is a smooth muscle. Their actin and myosin fibers are not as organized as other types of muscles.
