The width of this strait is 40 miles to 85 miles. Rivers like Vaigai river of Tamilnadu drains into it. Palk strait is a part of the Indian Ocean. The surface area of this strait is about 2500 km. Palk strait is a Sea dominated area. The important feature of the Palk strait is the waves which surround this strait. Palk strait is surrounded by Pamban Island of India from the Southern side. The other three sides are surrounded by the Adam’s bridge, Gulf of Mannar and Mannar Island. Pal Bay is the southwestern part of this strait.
