A record of what they did was not held by Ordinary men and women because they did not know how to read and write. There was a specialized class known as “Scribes” who had recorded all the events. Ordinary men and women were not doing any notable works. They are living their ordinary lives also they did not know about reading and writing.

Ordinary men and women did not keep a record of what they did because the activities of their everyday lives were not found to be of such value that they had to be registered. Moreover, it was an expensive proposition to hire a person to keep a record of daily events.
On the other hand, it was not too difficult for kings and rulers to hire chroniclers to record what they did or what was happening in or around their territories.
