Hint: A seed germinates only when it is provided with the best conditions. Water, minerals, nutrients etc all are important for its growth. Seed coats will imbibe all the requirements only when the conditions are appropriate. Soil needs to be fertile.

Complete answer:
What is germination? It is the process by which the plants grow from a seed. The sprouting of a seedling from seed is germination. It occurs in various steps such as

Step1: Imbibition- watering the seed will fill the seed with water
Step2: Water will activate the enzymes to begin the plant growth.
Step3: Roots start to develop to access the water under the soil.
Step4: The shoot starts to grow once enough water is imbibed.
Step5: The shoot will give leaves and hence the photogenesis begins to survive the plant.

Now let us see the main requirements for the germination process.
As we know, water forms the basic necessity for a plant to grow. So are the other factors such as:
- oxygen which will help the plant to survive.
- A suitable temperature is necessary as every plant has its particular temperature to grow. Some can grow in cold conditions, some in the hot and humid conditions.
- Light is also important as darkness and light are also the choices of the plant. Some grow in shade whereas some need sunlight.

So they form the basic important conditions for a seed to germinate, in which secondary requirement is the good soil- fertile soil can only help the seed to grow. Seeds need minerals to grow.
So the answer is option D: All of the above

Note: The first sign of germination is the enlargement of the seed. This happens because of the intake of the water from the environment. After some time, the seed coat wrinkles and breaks causing the sprouting. The conditions for germination depend on the species of the plant. They are initially very weak and develop stability as they grow.
