Hint: To solve this we need to know the difference between face value and place value. The digit of a number expresses the values of their own, when the number is expressed in expanded form and read in words. The value of a digit when expressed in expanded form of the number is called its place value in the number. The face value of a digit is the digit itself.

Complete step-by-step answer:
We need to find the sum of face values of 4 and 8 in any number having 4 and 8 as digits.
Let’s see some 2 digit numbers containing ‘4’ and ‘8’ is only 48. The face value of 4 and 8 in 48 is 4 and 8 only because the face value of a digit is the digit itself. So the sum is \[ \Rightarrow 4 + 8 = 12\] .
Now take a three digit number which contains ‘4’ and ‘8’. That is 348, 486, 548 etc. In all these numbers the face value of 4 and 8 is 4 and 8 only, so the sum is \[ \Rightarrow 4 + 8 = 12\] .
Similarly if we use four digit numbers, five digit numbers and so on. We will have the same face value. So the sum of the face is 12.
So, the correct answer is “Option A”.

Note: If they ask the sum of face value of any number, all we need to do is add the given numbers only. Why because we explained above in detail. Point the difference between face value and the place value (place value deals with the position of digits). Don’t get confused with these two.
