The Ramosi tribe was the hilly tribes in Western Ghats and they were not reconciled to the British Rule and the pattern of British administration. In the year 1822, they rose under the Chittur Singh and plundered the country to Satara. In the year 1825 to 26 there were a lot of eruptions and the disturbances which continued till 1829.
The Ramosi were earlier known as Bedar, Vedan and Boya. They were employed by the Maratha rulers as Pindari freebooters. Under the British Raj, they were classified as a criminal tribe under the Criminal tribe Acts.
