Hint: An emf is the force that causes an electric current to flow in an electric circuit while the potential difference (pd) between two points in an electric circuit is that difference in their electrical state which tends to cause flow of electric current between them. Volt is a unit of electromotive force as well as potential difference.
Complete answer:
Electric cell is a device in which difference of electric potential is established between the two electrodes as a result of chemical reaction between the electrodes and the electrolytes .Single unit is known as cell a combination of several units connected electrically is known as battery.
Cells are of two types namely primary cells and secondary cells.
Primary cell essentially consists of a vessel containing a liquid known as electrolyte and two dissimilar electrodes.
Current delivered by a cell and pd across the load circuit are given respectively by :
\[I=\dfrac{EMF}{R+r}=\dfrac{E}{R+r}\] $\cdots \cdots (1)$
Where R=external resistance
r=internal resistance
$V=IR=\dfrac{E}{R+r}\times R$
Maximum current will be produced when R tends to 0 (R=0)
From the data we know the values of E=10V and r=$2\Omega $
Substituting these values in equation (1)
$I=\dfrac{10}{2}=5A$
The maximum current produced by a cell of emf 10V and internal resistance $2\Omega $ is 5A
Note:
Student’s batteries should never be constructed from other than identical cells. Mixing of cells of different types, cells of different sizes, cells from different manufactures, or even manufacturing lots may give results ranging from simply unsatisfactory to disastrous.SI unit of current is amperes(v) and the flow of electric current in a conductor is due to flow of electrons.
