Pleural membranes cover the lung and protect the lung. By folding back, the pleural membrane forms a pleural sac which comprises two membranous layers. The two layers of the pleural membrane are called parietal pleura and visceral pleura. The parietal pleura is located near the thoracic wall. Visceral pleura surrounds the lungs and its associated structure like bronchi, nerves, etc.
Meninges is responsible for covering the spinal cord and brain. Meninges comprises three layers. These are dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater. Meninges provide support and structure to the cranial vasculature and protect the CNS from external damage.
The mucous membrane is composed of loose connective tissues. It is found on the external layer of many internal organs like the stomach, nasal cavity, insider the mouth, etc.

Pleural membrane is composed of smooth muscle. The pleural membrane is a slippery thin membrane that is found in a moist condition. Visceral pleura is thinner as compared to the Parietal pleura. Parietal can be classified into Mediastinal pleura, Cervical pleura, costal pleura, and Diaphragmatic pleura. Intrapleural space is found between parietal pleura and visceral pleura.
