Hint: Thyroxine is the most important hormone produced by the thyroid gland and secreted into the bloodstream. In the bloodstream, thyroxine travels to the organs like the liver and kidneys where it is converted to the potent form triiodothyronine.
Complete answer:
The function of thyroxine hormone in frogs is to control the metamorphosis of the frog. Metamorphosis is a biological process where some animals and insects undergo extreme physical changes. Maturation of enzymes, blood cells, the remodelling of the nervous systems, digestive systems are some of the changes that happen due to metamorphosis. Thyroxine hormone is necessary for the metamorphosis of the frog. This was proved by removing the thyroid gland of the frog whereby the frog showed only little growth. Iodine is needed for production of thyroxine. So if there is deficiency of iodine it can retard the growth of a larva to become an adult frog.
Growth hormone or somatotropin is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction and regeneration in humans and other animals.
Male reproductive system consists of testes, sperm ducts, and cloaca. While the female reproductive system consists of ovaries, oviducts, uteri, and cloaca. Sperm is produced by testes or male sex cells.
Endocrine gland includes endocrine glands such as pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, pineal body, pancreatic islets, adrenals, and gonads.
Notes:
Frogs are carnivorous tailless vertebrate amphibians. They are included under the Phylum Chordata and under the class Amphibians. They are known as Rana tigrina. They are cold blooded which are widely found in India. Another characteristic feature of frogs is their ability to camouflage.
