The book 'Geet Govind' is written by Jayadev. He was a great Sanskrit poet who was born in the year 1170 in Eastern India. He was the son of Bhojadeva and Ramadevi. He had his education in the Sanskrit language. At an early age, he was married to Padmavati.

He also wrote the Dasavatara which means ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Because of his detailed explanation of the posture of Krishna Tribhanga posture, in which Lord Krishna is playing the flute, he came into limelight. He has also got the credit of institutionalising the Devadasi System in the temples of the Oriya. Devdasi is the girl dancers who perform various kinds of dances in front of God.

His book 'Geet Govind' is divided into twelve chapters and each of these chapters are further divided into one or more divisions which are known as Prabhandas. Each of these Prabhandas is distributed into groups of eights which are known as Ashtapadis. In this book, he has beautifully elaborated the love story of Radha Krishna.
