Hint: Lungs are the center of the respiratory system which helps the body to inhale oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide. There are two parts of the membrane of lungs i.e., Outer pleura and Inner pleura.
Complete answer:
First of all, you should know about lungs. Lungs are the pair of organs having spongy texture which are present in your chest. When we inhale then the air enters the lungs and the air moves from the lungs to the blood.
The covering of the lungs is pleural membrane which is thin, moist, slippery and it has two layers i.e., outer pleura which is Parietal pleura and the inner pleura which is visceral pleura. Out of these two layers, outer one is attached to the chest wall and inner one covers the lungs and adjoining structures. There is presence of a space between the both the layers which is called intrapleural space containing fluid secreted by the membranes.
If we look at options now:
>Option A is Pericardium. It is a thin, fluid-filled sac which covers the outer surface of the heart but in the question covering of the lung is asked due to which this option is incorrect and therefore it gets eliminated.
>Option B is Perichondrium. It is the layer of irregular connective tissues which surrounds the cartilage but, in the question, covering of the lung is asked due to which this option is incorrect and therefore it gets eliminated.
>Option C is Pleural membrane. This option is the correct option as pleural membranes are the covering of lungs which are further of two types i.e., Outer pleura and Inner pleura. Therefore, it is correct.
>Option D is Peritoneum. It is the serous membrane which lines the abdominal cavity but, in the question, covering of the lung is asked due to which this option is incorrect and therefore it gets eliminated.
Hence, the correct answer is option (C).
Note: Pericardium is the outer covering of heart, perichondrium is the layer of connective tissues surrounding the cartilage and peritoneum lines the abdominal cavity but, in the question, covering of lung is asked which is Pleural membrane.
