Mitosis is a process of making new identical daughter cells from the parent cell. So the main goal of mitosis is to replace worn out cells and for growth. The process of meiosis occurs in five phases these five phases are as follows-
Interphase: In this phase DNA is copied and this results in the formation of two identical sets of chromosomes. Centrosomes are present outside the nucleus and they contain pairs of centrioles and during this phase microtubules extend from these centrosomes.
Prophase: In this phase chromosomes condense into a shape of X that is easily visible under a microscope. The chromosomes pair up so that both copies of the chromosome are together. When prophase is going to end the nucleus membrane dissolves so that chromosomes are released easily.
Metaphase: In this phase chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell. The centrioles are also now present at the opposite poles and mitotic spindle fibres are extending from them.
Anaphase: Now in this phase sister chromatids are pulled apart by the mitotic spindle now this pulls one chromatid to one pole and another chromatid to another pole.
Telophase: At each pole a full set of chromosomes are together now, there is membrane formed around each set of chromosomes so that two nuclei can be produced. Now the process of cytokinesis occurs in which cell is divided into two daughter cells consisting of a full set of chromosomes in a nucleus. Hence a new cell is formed at the end of telophase.
