Hint: Terminal buds are present at the apex of the growing stem and the branches. The terminal buds are also known as apical buds. They are the reason for the growth in the length of the axis. Growth of the terminal buds can cause apical dominance by inhibiting the growth of the axillary buds. Terminal buds contain an arrangement of nodes, internodes, and leaves.

Complete answer:
Buds are condensed rudimentary shoots and are also a compact body that consists of delicate growing points, nodes, internodes, and sometimes closely crowded immature leaves. Terminal buds present at the apex of the stem contain apical meristem that is responsible for the indefinite growth of the cells may it be vegetative or reproductive. The terminal buds contain auxin which inhibits the growth of the lateral buds and is distributed throughout the plant body by phloem. The bud formed can remain in the dormant stage for some time or can form a shoot immediately. The apical and the axillary buds which are responsible for the growth of stem and leaves are known as vegetative buds and the which are responsible for the growth of flowers are known as flowering buds.

Note. :
According to the structure of buds they can be of various types – a. vegetative buds b. floral buds c. mixed buds. Broadly buds can be classified as – a. normal buds (apical buds, axillary buds, active buds, dormant buds, deciduous buds, collateral buds) and b. adventitious buds (epiphyllous, radical). Modification of buds includes bulbil, thorn, tendril.
