The term used for granting the women right to vote is known as Women Suffrage. The fight for the women’s right to vote began in the 19th century when they were regarded as an inferior in the society in physical and mental terms. It was believed in those days that the existence of a woman was only associated with their husbands after the marriage and argued that their involvement in the voting system would disconnect them from playing the role of a wife and mother.
In the beginning of the 20th century women made their place in the national elections in New Zealand in the year 1893, in Australia in 1902, in Finland in 1906 and in Norway in the year 1913. Regarding the Indian system the Government of India Act 1919 was passed for establishing the authority of women. In between 1919 and 1929 granted the right to women to vote and the first victory was in Madras in 1919 and after that in Travancore and Jhalawar state in the year 1920 and in 1921 in Madras Presidency and the Bombay Presidency. Thus, they got a push through these movements.

National Council of Women in India established in 1925 headed by Meherbai Tata.
All India Mahila Congress was established in the year 1984 and is presently headed by Sushmita Dev.
National Federation of Indian Women established in the year 1954 on 4th June.
